Lily and the Rockets Novel Study

Kia ora bloggers,

In reading at school we have been given a novel each to read each day. My novel is called Lily and the Rockets by Rebecca Stevens. In the story Lily and the Rockets, Lily is the main character.  Lily is a footballer and she is in the Royal Arsenals football team and her team is called the Rockets. All of the players in the Rockets are girls and Lily plays goalkeeper in the story. This story was placed in the year 1917 and all the men had gone to war so, all the women had to take over all of the men’s jobs like being a football player or working in a factory. All of these are examples of Munitions, if you still don’t know what a Munition is here is a better meaning of it. A Munition is when all of the men goes to war they leave their jobs so they can’t go back and finish what they were doing. But some men don’t go to war so they can keep doing what they want to do. But if all the men go to war they leave all the women to do all their jobs. We also did a novel slideshow which is a slideshow about our novel. This is one of our slides in the slideshow. Lily Dodd (main character) plays football. She plays for Woolwich and Royal Arsenals football team.

Thank you for reading my blog.

In The Small Trenches

kia ora, Dear readers,

Last week on the 27th April, all of the Te Waka Ako student’s had a big surprise, the were strings everywhere!

Then we found we were doing Under The Wires, and learning how it will feel like if we were in a real trench and at war. We still did lots of learning, our first subject was reading, which was a little hard because we had to find a group of four or five. It was very hard to move and bend down at the same time because, we couldn’t touch the wires. If we touch the wires we would get shot (that is just pretend.) Next thing we had was maths, which is one of my favourite subjects of the school day. But today it was not my favourite subject because we had to find our maths buddy’s and do the maths handout the teachers said we had to do, but the maths work was still fun to do. Our maths was to to do about ANZAC day, so was our reading.  After reading was writing, and writing last week was really strange because we had to move to a spot with our kits (our pencil case and a glue stick) around  to find a spot. Then we started writing a poem, we could make it any poem but it had to be about ANZAC Day. My story was about a horse running out of the war with a rider on the horses back, running into the forest.

Boom!!! Volcano Art Experience

kia ora,

Yesterday we created some volcano by using paper, paint and glue.

The most fun part was making the paint we us clay, molten lava (honey), rocks and water.

How we made the paint was first we crush clay into bits then we add the molten lava.

Next we add the water and mixed it all together.
